Our journey began with our amazing daughter Olivia, who continues to inspire us every single day.
When Olivia was diagnosed with Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia (AMKL) at just 15 months old, our world changed overnight. Over the next six months, she faced an intensive treatment plan that included oncology care and a bone marrow transplant. These were some of the hardest moments of our lives, but Olivia faced them with incredible strength, courage, and silliness.
You almost wouldn’t even know she was going through treatment during her three rounds of chemotherapy before her bone marrow transplant. Olivia would run the halls of 4E. I mean literally run the halls. Be in the playroom from 9am to 6pm. Play with her besties of Child Life (Claudia, Samm, and Emily). Only would leave to take her two-hour nap in her stroller. Which was and still is her safe place at the hospital. Her bravery, determination, and unwavering spirit gave us the strength to keep going, even on the hardest days during her bone marrow transplant.
Through it all, Children’s National Hospital became a second home to us. It wasn’t just a place for treatments and procedures—it was a place of healing, hope, and support. As a family, we experienced firsthand the impact of programs like the Parent Resource Fund, which provided us with guidance and essentials that made those long hospital days a little easier. The Child Life team brought Olivia moments of joy and play that helped her be a kid, even during treatments and procedures. And Music Therapy continues to be a source of comfort and healing, allowing Olivia to express herself through music when words just aren’t enough.
Through Liv Like A Warrior, Sean and I want to continue to give back to these very programs that supported us and honor the families who are still fighting their battles. That’s why all fundraising efforts are directly contributed to the Parent Resource, Child Life, and Music Therapy Funds at Children’s National Hospital.
By supporting these programs, we’re not just providing financial assistance—we’re giving families hope, strength, and moments of peace when they need it most. We’re ensuring that every child facing a medical crisis has access to resources that bring comfort and joy, just as Olivia experienced.
Though Olivia has not been inpatient is a couple months, her warrior self still goes to children’s national one to three times a week and these programs continue to support her even in outpatient appointments. And our unfortunate unexpected admissions due to her BMT complications. Through our foundation every act of kindness we are able to extend because of your generosity. Together, we’re making a difference in the lives of families and children, reminding them that they’re not alone in their fight.
Thank you for standing with us, for continuing to cheer on Olivia, and for helping us grow Liv Like A Warrior. She is our warrior, and now, through this foundation, we can all continue to Liv Like A Warrior.
