Our Hope
Children’s National Hospital strives to provide the highest quality of care for children with cancer. Beyond the exceptional medical treatment and innovative research the team pursues, the program is committed to caring for the whole child—body, mind and spirit.
Music Therapy and Child Life have played a vital role in Olivia’s care. These services ease her anxiety, distract her from painful procedures, and encourage playful moments during long and unexpected hospitalizations. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not reimburse for these services. The hospital must secure funding for these programs and people year after year.
Our family feels fortunate to have a strong support system of family, friends, and colleagues alike. Many families at Children’s National do not. We were amazed to learn that 56% of patients at Children’s National are on Medicaid. The Patient and Family Resource Fund ensures families in need get additional supports to help them through treatment. Basic needs such as meals, housing accommodations, transportation and parking can be costly.
Our hope is to eliminate as many stressors as possible, so less-resourced families have more support through treatment.
